— meet the editorsThe Further Travels of the Lawn Gnome!
So this little gnome has not yet made it to Ireland in the overhead compartment. (Airlines are too keen on free passengers nowadays, and no one is willing to claim me.) And now I’m a senior not so frequenting the halls of Urusline Academy. I will be leaving soon to further my education in the field of Nuclear or Chemical Engineering. I still read a lot. I still write a lot. But this little gnome is disillusioned with this years movie pics. Lord of the Rings was a let down. I ask you, Peter Jackson, did you read the books? But there were still a few good ones out there. In my humble opinion, everyone should see the 25th hour! The Ring scared my burmuda shorts right off of me so now I wear cargo pants. Also, in my travels this year I found a new friend. Well, it was more like an old friend I had forgotten about. I met Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel again and now I renewed that obsession. For such a small little gnome I do have way too many obsessions. I lost my hat on that adventure when a rapid vampire stole it so now I just have a baldhead in case you’re looking for me. I don’t spend so much time on lawns anymore so much as I visit Starbucks too often. Gnomes and caffeine go really well together I’ve found. So as this is my final year on the board, I would like to say Bon Voyage to you all! And may you have much luck on all your future adventures!
things i love and things i hate best describe me
loves: music, guitar, summer, independence, the color pink
hates: cold weather, the color green, broken down cars, overwhelming stress, being lost in all senses of the word
one day i’ll figure out how to get rid of the last and live in the first.
Hi my name is FJ. My real name is frank but I am called everything but my real name. I’m not a normal person. I like to wear things like coconut bras grass skirt’s and full costume Spanish dancing outfits. My passion is music and I hope that by this time next year I will know how to play guitar. I like to read but I never have time because I go to St. Xavier. Other than being a sophomore at St. Xavier and being in a family of 7 and having great friends who are almost as strange as I am my life consists of customizing my room with by putting up quotes all around it. For all of those with the question “what’s wrong with him” they have experts tryin to figure it out and i’ll get back to you next year on that.
I’m now a senior at Oak Hills and soon to be a freshman at NKU in the fall. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and spending time with my boyfriend. I work at a little restaurant called Diane’s, in Western Hills. I now have my pride and joy, which seemed like it took forever to get, my car. I’m looking forward to graduation so I can go down to Panama City, FL and party for 10 days with my friends, and have the time of my life. “In case I don’t see you the rest of the day, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.”
I think everyone should watch Monday Night Football, for the world would be a much happier place. Footballtown, USA. Can’t you just see it? In reality, I am Buttercup the Powerpuff Girl (shhh!), made from the chemical X. “They” have yet to decide whether I am an overall beneficial thing for society. Perhaps you’ve seen me—I cha-cha, I sashay, I got jiggy with it before there was an it! With sugar and spice (and of course all things nice), I’m quite capable of getting a tad bit spicy if I don’t get what I want on my birthday. And you all know what I want, because all I ever asked for was co-domination (along with my Prince of Procrastination) over a small private island off the coast of Australia… and maybe a few helper monkeys… I’m a Life Is Beautiful kind of girl with an intense passion for all the lovely music that never stops playing in my head. When I randomly burst into some little song and dance routine, perhaps now you’ll understand why. Always remember that my evil twin possesses exactly half of my brain. Feel free to chuckle silently to yourself or to laugh aloud (you schizo!) at all of Footballtown, because (can’t you just smell the bad cliché coming?) the time you spend wasting is certainly not wasted time. Because it passes far too fast, I raise my head and nod my glass (umm, what?) to those like myself who dream in color. Tell me, are you a badfish too?
My name is Laura and I’m one of the 767 seniors at Oak Hills. I am a member of the dance team, Partner’s Club, drama club, orchestra, French club, and of course, poetry club. After high school, I plan on going to college and majoring in Special Education (which college has yet to be determined). Above all, I would like to say that Paula is the coolest and that poetry is not for losers. Where do you think songwriters began?
Oh swell, it’s the end of February, which ultimately means its time to write the bio… Well, I suppose I’ll start with the basics: My name is Lyndsey and I’m a sophomore and McNicholas High School where I’m involved in the Spring musical, band (yes, I’m a band dork) and the dance team. Not a whole lot has changed from last year. I still can’t drive and seeing as one’s birthday doesn’t change, my star sign remains a Libra. I’m becoming rather good at this whole procrastinating deal (assuming there’s skill involved in it…) although this time I have a semi-legitimate excuse as to why I’m turning this in late. I overuse a few select phrases such as “whatever works” and “dude, that’s crazy talk”. But that’s okay. Anyway, moving right along…
Hey, my name is Julie and I am a little freshman at Ursuline Academy in Blue Ash. I like lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer (besides reading, writing, and being creative with the right side of my brain, of course). I like movies in general, but Monty Python (shows included) and Peter Sellers in Pink Panther movies are awesome. I like Harry Potter (fanfics are awesome) and the fact that we really do have walls at my school that move is funny. Give me an Agatha Christie with a cup of (Panera) hot chocolate and a (Panera) bagel with (Panera) cream cheese (I am seriously NOT being paid… haha) and I think we are getting to become pretty good friends. Take me to a concert (and I’m not talking piano) and that pretty much seals the deal. Hey, whoever said people could not be bought was paid to say that. Anyway, I’ll finish with Oscar Wilde (who, by the way, is brilliant):
“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”
“It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.”
“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”
My outlook in life can be described in a single quote by Dave Matthews: “The future is no place to place your better days.” If this were not true, then all literature, art, poetry, all emotion would be of no importance, of no real value. When all is broken down, we are here on earth for a single purpose; to live. Simple, isn’t it? We don’t live in multiple time dimensions, or at least we don’t have proof that we do. Now is all that we’ve got. Now is what makes the past worthwhile and what gives the future its purpose. We are eternally ephemeral.
I’m in love with sunny mornings, sleeping in, staying up late, parks in the middle of nowhere, cherry danishes, smiley friends, the word intoxication, and a tall boy who rows. Plato once said “At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.” So I guess I’m in love with writing too. I’m Elyse and I’m in love with being Seventeen.
