This book is about a boy named Jethro. The book takes place during the Civil War. It shows the struggles families went through. Jethro was to young to be in the war but many brothers and people he knew were.
I was looking at reviews for this book and saw that it wasn't really appreciated. I won't tell you this is the best and most exciting book I've ever read, but it was good. There wasn't any war action because that isn't wasn't what this book was about. This wasn't a book about the civil war, it was a book that showed life during the civil war. I will be honest and say that I wasn't open minded in reading this book (it was a summer reading assignment) but when I finished I realized just how good the book was.

The book is about this farm boy in Civil War times. His family got separated between the sides. He had to be the "man of the house" when his father had a heart attack.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... SNORE FEST!!! It's ok if your into boring Civil War books but good book wise - it wasn't exciting AT ALL! I was forced by my teacher (who picks out the worst books) to read it. Beware: this book may cause you to die of boredom!

Jethro lives on a farm in the Civil War. His family is torn between the south and the north. His brother gose south to fight while the rest of the family stays in the North. His family has great problems because the family is split and neighbors burn down the family's barn.
The book is not very good. I only read it because I had to. If you are not into the Civil War it is a waste of time to read.

A boy named Jethro growing up into a man during the Civil War.
I thought the book was okay. At some points of it I'd lose my interest in it. I think if you’re into reading the The Lord of the Rings you might like this book, otherwise probably not.
