Artemis Fowl

by Eoin Colfer
Category: fantasy
Artemis Fowl is a very wealthy 12 year-old, and a (criminal) mastermind. The story starts out with little Artemis waiting for his father to return. While his father's gone, Artemis gets a great idea to rebuild the family fortune. Artemis isn't planning on using dollars to get his family's fortune back, nope, he was thinking gold. Fairy gold, to be exact. So he ends up cheating a pixi out of her fairy Book, the fairy Bible. From the Book Artemis learns quite a bit about the People including, the large amounts of gold they posses. He also learns how he might capture one, and hold it for ransom. This is where Holly Short comes in. Holly is a LEP captain. Brave, sarcastic, strong-willed and desperate to help her People, Holly is not the kind of elf you would want to mess around with. But who does Artemis end up catching? Yup, Holly. Sure, Artemis thinks he's got it in the gold. But Artemis finds himself in a pickle when the People start breaking the rules of their own Book. He better think fast, or he might lose more than gold. In fact he might get a bio-bomb blown up in his face, the problem? He might not live to tell the tale.
This is a great book with unforgettable characters like Juliet, a GIRL bodyguard. (you don't see a lot of those) Butler, her big brother whose charge is Artemis. Foaly, an insanely smart centuar. Root, the LEP commander who’s got a bit of a temper, but is kind of funny at the same time. Mulch, a dwarf who is very funny. This is a book not to be missed!!!!! P.S. This is a kind of bad review because I had to cut a bunch of stuff out because it was too long. So if you think it’s bad, sorry! The original one was a LOT better.

Artemis Fowl is not your average 12 year old. In fact, he is a certified (criminal) genius, he is very wealthy, and he wants more. That is what drives him to kidnap Holly Short, a disobedient but courageous fairy of The People. The People are a subterranean species that was driven underground by humans thousands of years ago. But Artemis got a lot more than he bargained for. For starters, The People are more technologically advanced than he thinks. In fact, they are thousands of years ahead of human development. Another thing that he didn’t see coming is how human like the fairies really are. This influences his decision to release Holly. Another thing that Artemis doesn’t realize is that The People will do anything to keep themselves from getting exposed to humans. They are bound to rules and guidelines from their sacred “Book,” which is like their Bible. That is all fine to Artemis because the fairies are playing right into his hands. That is until they stop following the rules. That is when Artemis has to find a way to avoid many other obstacles, including a mischievous dwarf, an angry troll, and a deadly bio-bomb
All in all, this is a very good book with a little complicated but brilliant plot. Eoin Colfer does a tremendous job lifting reality from his readers’ minds.

This book is about a rich evil teen who tries to take over the world with his butler, Butler.
I would not deem this book more fun than throwing up. I hated it!!! Don't read it!

A genius eleven-year-old boy wants to restore his family's billionaire status. He has a bodyguard and butler named ...uh, Butler. So, he goes looking for a fairy. He kidnaps the LEP officer in the fairy world, Holly Short. Then come some sticky situations like dealing with a troll and escaping a bio bomb. Anyway, in the end, Artemis frees the fairy and the disillusioned mom goes back to normal. Plus he got lots of fairy gold.
Such a great book! I luv it! Some confusing parts though, when the words get all "high-tech-y". I also kinda wanted to see how normal kids saw Artemis. But oh well, who cares?!! The book's great!!! A few flaws don't really matter when you read the ending!

Artemis Fowl is a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind. He discovers that fairies really do exist, and concocts a plan to acquire some of their gold. He kidnaps Captain Holly Short, the first female officer in the history of fairy Recon, and demands a ransom. It all looks good for Artemis at first: The fairies, despite their very advanced technology and magic, play right into his hands. That is when the fairies stop following the rules.
I like reading this book because it isn't written in the polite, angelic fashion you see normally with kids' literature. Evildoers comprise most of the cast, and everybody has twisted morals and funny, sarcastic comments. The writing isn't babied up for "us innocent children." And the difference shows. It's a mind stretch just to read Artemis Fowl, and in some ways, that is what makes it such a fun and unforgettable book.

Artemis Fowl, a pre-teen genius, has been at home waiting for his father to return after the Russian Mafia blew his ship up. Of course, in his father's absence Artemis decides to build back his family’s fortune, illegally. After a few wild-goose chases he finds a fairy, and copies her sacred book, after practically killing her. Knowing all the fairies secrets Artemis sets out to find a different fairy, one that he can hold for ransom. The lucky fairy, Captain Holly Short of LEPrecon, gets taken back to Fowl Manor. And through time (literally) and turmoil Holly escapes from Fowl Manor with half of the ransom gold in exchange for a wish. Artemis got to keep the other $15 million worth. Artemis wishes that his mother would get brought back to reality, she's been sitting in her bed, devastated, ever since Artemis Fowl senior disappeared in Russia...
The only thing I didn't like about this book, was that it ended.
