Darren Shan struggles with his vampire side trying to live without human blood, hoping it will turn him back to a human if he doesn't drink. Mr. Crepsley brings Darren to the Cirque Du Freak where he makes friends with Evra Von, a snack boy. Darren and Evra have daily chores at the cirque such as getting food for the little people. Darren and Evra become friends with two humans, one who wishes to join the cirque and one who wishes to free the wolfman.
