This series of books is about a boy named Torak of 11 summers old (at the start) who has been kept apart from the clans all his life by his father, or Fa, who has just been gored by a demon bear. As he lay dying, he tells Torak there is so much he hasn't told him, and to stay away from men, because if they find out what he can do ... Also, when Torak was young, his father put him in a wolf den with the other cubs for a moon (I think) and he has grown up with an ability; he can speak wolf. Because Torak is of the Wolf Clan, his clan guardian is a wolf. He finds his guardian near a river where the rest of the cub’s family has been killed by a flash flood. He helps the cub and shares his kills with it. Wolf grows up to become Torak's friend and guardian, always loyal. At the end of the first book, Torak goes to stay with the Raven Clan, and meets a girl there named Renn. They become friends and she begins to travel with him.
