Brooklyn Rose

by Ann Rinaldi
Category: historical
This is the diary of Rose, a fifteen-year-old girl living in the south with her family in one of the remaining plantations after the civil war. When a strange French silk merchant, Renee, comes and asks for rose's hand in marriage, what will her decision be? And if she chooses to marry this man, what will her new life in Brooklyn , New York, his home, be like?
This is truly one of the best books I have ever picked up. I mostly stay away from diaries, but this book was phenomenal!! I loved the way it portrayed a realistic story about self-sacrifice in this time period. This is one of my favorite time periods, so I may be a little biased, but this is an excellent book that any young girl would enjoy, that wants to be treated well by a man.

A fifteen year old girl who lives in the south with her parents marries a French man named Rene from the north. Her name is Rose and she moves to New York to live with him. It takes place in the years 1899-1900.
I loved it because it was historical fiction.
